Christ Image Not Made By Hands, Know as: Veronica's Veil
This image is considered to be the oldest known icon and also the oldest known portrait of Jesus.
The image has been referred to in many ways over the centuries. In Greek, it is called the "Achieropoietos," meaning "Not Made by Human Hands".
The legend is linked by some to the Shroud of Turin and by others to Veronica's Veil.
This icon shows only the head of Jesus, no neck, shoulders or body, surrounded by a halo. The halo has always been used in icons as the symbol for sanctity.
The background is gold leaf. Gold is used in Icons to represent divine light because of its high value and ability to reflect and enrich light in a way so different from pigment.
Every color and every feature in Icons has a meaning. The color Blue - denotes Divinity, Red - the Life Blood of Humanity, Yellow/Gold - Eternal Life, Green - New Birth, Brown - The Earth from which all things grow, Black - Death, Orange - Revolution, and White/Silver - Purity.
The images are high quality offset print with golden paint ornaments printed over wood.
